About Me

My name is Kayla and I am from Georgia. I am a runner, fitness blogger, yoga instructor and a foodie lover. In the last 5 months I have lost 40 pounds and have discovered a new love of running. I have knocked over 11 minutes off of my 5K time and I am currently trying to reach a sub 26 minute. Follow my blog for my journey,  training tips, recipes, travel tips and learn more about me and my races.

It’s been a Monday so I really needed a run tonight. My job requires me to travel a lot and deal with all sorts of things. So first thing this morning I go in to a classroom and the teacher says she finally figured out who I was after someone told her my last name. This person knew me as a kid and hasn’t seen me until recently. She said she would have never recognized me because as a kid she said I was a rather “healthy child” as she does hers arms like she’s describing a big person. She says I mean you were not that fat but you were a chunky kid. Me: yes, I’m well aware. By this point feelings are hurt because she says it in a room full of people. I mean, who says something like that? Yes, I was an overweight child but really why does someone have to point that out as the sole thing they remember about me?! I think people need to let go of stereotyping people and just be nice, you never know what someone is dealing with.
Got a little 4 miler in today on my lazy Sunday! Tired legs from yesterday’s 5K. I was waiting for the race peeps to post the results from yesterday’s run before I talked about it. I was THIRD overall female in a hometown Christmas run. How cool is that?! A year ago I would have died laughing if someone said I would be anywhere near where I am today. I have a Christmas 8K coming up in a few weeks that I will be training for. Have a RUNderful week friends.
7 1/2 years ago in July 2012 I ran my first 5K. I was 20 years old and I literally never ran a day in my life. I ended up finishing a little over 40 minutes. I honestly woke up one morning walked downstairs and said I’m going to run a 5K. Since then, I have ran every weekend since. I have taken my 5K time down from 40 minutes to 24. I have run 13 half marathons and lost 43 pounds since March of this year. There’s nothing a little hard work and dedication can’t get ya! Keep working towards those goals! I’m no where done yet, I’ve still got a lots of goals left in me! Happy Thursday everyone! Go work on those goals today.
It’s Wednesday, which means speed day!! Did 4 miles and ended with some sprints. It hasn’t been a good week for training runs but no week or run is ever the same.
4 miles tonight. Sunday I had a major migraine and dizzy spells and had to take the day off from training. I did run 3 miles yesterday but didn’t push it since I felt weird all day. I’ve always struggled with getting headaches and I use to get them a lot more then I do now. I absolutely hate getting them because I literally don’t even want to move when I have one. BUT Today I’m back to normal, thank goodness 🙌🏽
Happy Saturday!! Did 7 miles this morning. My legs were pretty tired from the Turkey Trot but now I get to be lazy for the rest of the day.
